Our Journey
Action for Sustainable Development (ASUDEV) is a local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that addresses the challenge of fighting poverty and disease in the Upper West Region and beyond.
ASUDEV is registered with the Registrar General and the Department of Social Development with registration numbers CG008310222 and D.S.D./3148 respectively.
Formerly known as Tumu Youth Aids Action Club (TUYAAC), ASUDEV was founded in 2001 by a group of enthusiastic secondary school leavers from Kanton Secondary School and Tumu Secondary Technical who were members of Aids Action Clubs in their former schools. The group, having undergone several training programmes in HIV/AIDS peer education, developed the passion to contribute to the global response towards the eradication of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The group tasked itself with this course and funded itself through monthly dues of its members. Though our efforts reached different classes of people in the target communities the youth was our main focus. Our work caught the admiration of many people and resulted in some organizations coming in to support our activities. Prominent amongst them was Action Aid International Ghana.
In 2005 our experiences in community work revealed that aside from the HIV/AIDS pandemic the people were faced with other problems, especially among women, children, and the disabled. This necessitated the expansion of its interventions to other areas of community development. TUYAAC metamorphosed into Action for Sustainable Development (ASUDEV) and incorporated as a nongovernmental organisation.
ASUDEV’S headquarters is located in Tumu, the Sissala East Municipal Capital.
The core component of our program is alleviating poverty amongst women and children to live a life of dignity. We do this through rights-based advocacy programmes and support with provision of essential services where there is the need and means to do so.
VISION: Our vision is to see “a society of dignity devoid of poverty, ignorance and disease.”
MISSION: “Working actively with rural people in collaboration with other civil society organizations and agencies using Rights Based Approaches to empower the poor and disadvantaged towards reducing poverty, discrimination and marginalization.”
